Rahul backed away slowly at first, careful not to startle her. Once the sound of the digging faded behind him, he moved faster. By the time he reached the edge of the forest, he was certain of one thing: he could not handle this alone. Something was wrong, and the elephant’s behavior was too intense to ignore.
He went straight to a group of villagers gathered near the well. “You need to come see this,” he told them. At first, they looked confused. When he said there was an elephant in the forest and something was wrong with it, a few people laughed. One man suggested she was probably just throwing mud on herself. Another said elephants made noise all the time. But Rahul shook his head and told them this was different. When they still looked unsure, he took out his camera and showed them the footage. The laughter stopped almost immediately.
